NewJeans vs ADOR: Court Sets March 7 for Crucial Contract Hearing

The Seoul Central District Court has scheduled the first hearing between K-pop group NewJeans and their agency ADOR for March 7, addressing the agency’s injunction request to restrict the group’s independent activities during their ongoing contract dispute.

The court proceedings will progress in multiple stages, with the initial hearing focusing on temporary business restrictions, followed by a main trial on April 3 to determine the validity of the original contract. This legal action follows NewJeans’ November 2024 announcement expressing their intention to terminate their contract with ADOR.

“The March 7 hearing will be crucial in determining the scope of NewJeans’ activities during the dispute period,” stated entertainment law expert Kim Min-ho. “The court’s decision could significantly impact both parties’ business operations until the main trial.”

In preparation for potential outcomes, NewJeans’ legal team has initiated a fan participation campaign to select a temporary group name, demonstrating the group’s efforts to maintain their brand identity during the legal proceedings.

ADOR has maintained that the original contract remains valid, while NewJeans’ representatives argue for the necessity of independent activities during the dispute period. The case has drawn significant attention from the entertainment industry, as it could set precedents for future K-pop contract disputes.
