Chinese Girl Group A2O MAY Makes History on North American Radio Charts with TVXQ Remake
A2O MAY, the rookie girl group from Lee Soo Man’s new entertainment venture, has achieved a significant milestone by entering North America’s Mediabase Top 40 chart, making history as the first Chinese girl group to appear on the influential radio tracking system.
According to A2O Entertainment on April 25, the group’s debut single “Under My Skin (A2O)” has secured the #39 position on the Mediabase Top 40 chart. The tracking system, which monitors airplay across more than 180 radio stations throughout the United States and Canada, serves as a key indicator of mainstream popularity in the North American market.
The group’s radio presence has shown steady growth, with “Under My Skin” increasing from 422 plays during April 10-16 to 551 plays in the following week (April 17-23), demonstrating building momentum for the Chinese act in the competitive North American radio landscape.
A2O MAY is a five-member Chinese girl group consisting of Cat, Michelle, Zizie, Cui Chang, and Chen Yu. They debuted in December 2024 under A2O Entertainment, the new company established by K-pop pioneer Lee Soo Man after selling his shares in SM Entertainment, which he founded and led for decades.
The group’s breakthrough debut single “Under My Skin (A2O)” is a remake of TVXQ’s hit track “Mirotic,” showing Lee’s strategy of reimagining proven K-pop formulas for his new venture. A2O Entertainment positions the group under the concept of “Zalpha Pop,” targeting both Gen Z and Alpha Generation listeners.
This chart achievement marks a significant expansion of Chinese pop music’s reach into Western markets, particularly notable at a time when K-pop continues its global dominance.
