Kim Soo Hyun Admits Dating Kim Sae Ron as Adults: Agency Denies Minor Relationship Claims
Actor Kim Soo Hyun’s agency has confirmed he dated the late actress Kim Sae Ron, but firmly denied allegations that their relationship began when she was a minor.
In an official statement released March 14, Gold Medalist clarified that “the two dated from summer 2019 to fall 2020, after Kim Sae Ron became an adult,” emphasizing that “dating Kim Sae Ron during her minor years is not true.”
The agency provided evidence to counter claims made by YouTube channel “Garosero Research Institute,” stating that photos revealed by the channel were all taken after Kim Sae Ron reached adulthood. They cited clothing release dates from June 2019 in one photo and metadata showing a December 2019 timestamp in another.
“The ‘2016 photo’ repeatedly claimed by Garosero cannot exist,” the statement continued, “because the two were not dating at that time.”
Regarding letters reportedly sent by Kim Soo Hyun to Kim Sae Ron during his military service, the agency explained they were “one of many letters sent to close acquaintances,” adding that the nickname used was one Kim Sae Ron had publicly used on social media since 2016.
The agency also addressed allegations about a 700 million won (approximately $502,000) debt demand that was reportedly a factor in Kim Sae Ron’s death. According to their statement, contract penalties from Kim Sae Ron’s 2022 DUI incident initially totaled 1.114 billion won ($800,000), later reduced to 700 million won.
“Gold Medalist paid the entire remaining debt that Kim Sae Ron could not personally handle,” the agency stated, explaining they processed it as a bad debt loss. They clarified that a certified mail sent to Kim Sae Ron was to document her inability to repay, as writing off debt without formal documentation could constitute breach of trust.
The agency emphasized that “the debt issue was entirely between Gold Medalist and Kim Sae Ron,” stating that “Kim Soo Hyun never lent money to Kim Sae Ron, nor did he demand repayment.”
Responding to claims that Kim Sae Ron’s plea messages to Kim Soo Hyun went unanswered, the agency countered that their legal representative sent a response six days after receiving her message.
The statement, originally planned for next week, was released earlier due to deteriorating public sentiment and Kim Soo Hyun’s mental health. “Early this morning, Kim Soo Hyun showed signs of severe psychological instability,” the agency revealed, adding that “it is too painful for one person to endure such things because of their private life.”
